27th April 2025 - Sunday School & Oasis 125th Anniversary, Wayne.D (Ready to Read)
Sermon TLDR
This sermon focuses on the parable of the lost sheep from Luke 15:3-7, using it to convey the message of God's individual love. The speaker [Wayne] highlights that just as the shepherd tirelessly sought the one lost sheep, named Fluffy for the story, God sees each person as priceless and precious, their value immeasurable.
Even when feeling lost or having made mistakes ("sin"), like the lost sheep, God actively seeks and rejoices over finding that one individual, demonstrating a love that is loving, believing, forgiving, caring, and trusting.
We’re encouraged to remember we are all "very special to God", particularly when facing life's difficulties.
20th April 2025 - Easter Sunday, Jim (Ready to Read)
Sermon TLDR
On Easter Sunday, the sermon began with a reading from John Chapter 20, highlighting the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jim reminded us about the significance of Easter and the joy it brings due to Jesus' resurrection, which was first discovered by Mary Magdalene. Mary came to the tomb early in the morning and found it empty, prompting her to seek Jesus, whom she initially mistook for the gardener. Upon recognizing him, she called him "Raboni" and conveyed his message to the disciples.
The sermon emphasized the disciples' initial fear and confusion following Jesus' crucifixion and the subsequent joy they felt upon seeing the risen Lord. It stressed the importance of faith in Jesus and his resurrection, which reconciles humanity with God and establishes righteousness.
Jim shared personal reflections on his journey of faith and the transformative power of grace, contrasting their past with the new life they found in Christ. The sermon concluded with a call to love one another as Jesus has loved us, urging the congregation to embody the teachings of Jesus in their daily lives. Through faith and the Holy Spirit, believers are encouraged to live righteous and fulfilling lives, embracing the peace and salvation offered by Jesus.
18th April 2025 - Good Friday, Tony (Ready to Read)
Sermon TLDR
On Good Friday, we reflect on the conflicting emotions this day evokes, considering its name and the events it commemorates.
The crucifixion marked the culmination of Jesus’s suffering and his mission on Earth. His declaration, "It is finished," signified completion rather than defeat, turning the darkest day into a triumph. The sermon highlights the power of the cross and the forgiveness it brings.
John Rile, the 20th-century Anglican Bishop of Liverpool, emphasized Jesus's sacrifice, asserting that Jesus represented humanity, suffered for us, and paid our debts. This act of restitution guarantees our new life through the Holy Spirit, enabling us to live godly lives. Rile's teachings remind us that Christ's death grants us spiritual freedom, a privilege worth understanding and embracing. Reflecting on these truths, we are encouraged to seek cleansing and renewal through Jesus, ensuring we experience the full extent of these blessings daily.
The sermon closed with a call to reflect on the freedom Christ offers and a prayer for understanding and embracing the blessings described by John Rile, asking Jesus to help us live in accordance with what He has done for us.
13th April 2025 - Palm Sunday, Patrick from LCM (Ready to Read)
Sermon TLDR
Palm Sunday is part of God's big plan, which started with creation, was marred by sin, and is being redeemed by Jesus. In the beginning, God created everything and saw that it was good. However, sin entered the world through Adam and Eve, leading to a broken relationship with God. But God sent Jesus to redeem us from sin and death.
Jesus entered Jerusalem on Palm Sunday as a humble king, riding a donkey, fulfilling the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9. The people wanted a political saviour, but Jesus came to bring peace between God and humanity. He faced suffering and death to defeat sin and death, and to bring forgiveness and eternal life.
Palm Sunday leads to Good Friday, where Jesus became the ultimate sacrifice, shedding his blood for our redemption. This act of love defeated sin and opened the way for us to have a relationship with God. It is finished; Jesus paid the price once and for all.
We also have a future hope. One day, there will be a new heaven and a new earth, free from sin and suffering. God himself will be our light, and every knee will bow to him. This is the assurance we have in Christ.
As we celebrate Palm Sunday and prepare for Easter, let's remember the significance of these events and share the good news with others. Jesus' sacrifice and resurrection are the foundation of our faith and the reason we have hope.
